Flinders Island with Mountain Seas Lodge
This was our second visit to Flinders Island and on this trip we stayed at the Mountain Seas Lodge at Loccata. The lodge is a very nice place with exceptional host, great food and it suited us very well.
On our first day we repeated the Trousers Point Walk with lots of birds and nice views of rocky shoreline and offshore islands. Next day we went up the western side of the island to Emita, Killiecrankie and Palana.
On our last day we drove up to Walkers Lookout and then east to the Patriarchs and Cameron lnlet before heading south to Lady Barren and then finally home. We really enjoyed our short stay on Flinders Island and would love to come back again sometime soon.
UK and France with Scenic Tours
Our Europe trip started and ended with stopovers in Singapore to visit family and help with jet lag. Our first stop-off in Europe was to visit family in the UK, in Cheshire and London.
Then to France on the EuroStar to Paris for the beginning of our adventure. The Scenic Sapphire took us from Challons-sur-Saône to Avignon (on the Rhône) with many side trips to châteaux, wine tastings and mediaeval villages. A great cruise and we found wonderful new friends.
Flinders Ranges with Aus. Iconic Tours
& Murray River with NRMA Travel
Our 4-wheel drive tour took us to the north of Wilpena Pound - including several gorges, Parachilna with its ancient fossils and Blinman where we toured a mine. We walked up to the Wangarra Lookouts with their spectacular views of the Pound. Our return to Adelaide included a quick stop in the Clare for a spot of wine tasting.
The second part of our trip was on the Murray Princess for a short cruise down and up the Murray River from and back to Mannum. Lots of wildlife and interesting scenery - great food and company as well.
North and South Island with
NRMA Travel & Grand Pacific Tours
Our bus trip of the North Island included parts we had missed on previous visits. The weather was not great but we enjoyed our tour and the nice group on the bus. Wellington's Te Papa Museum and WETA Workshop are not be missed.
Anne did all the driving for our exploration by car along the northern edge of the South Island - again somewhere we had not seen on previous trips. We really enjoyed this part of New Zealand and have promised to return as soon as possible.
Hamilton Island
We finally managed to get our second visit to Hamilton Island which was originally planned for a year earlier but Cyclone Debbie stopped us from going when we had originally planned.
Our activities were much more subdued this time but we did manage to get over to Dent Island just to the west of Hamilton Island which is also dedicated to a challenging golf course and a great restaurant where we had lunch. We managed a boat trip out to the reef and a spectacular helicopter ride back flying over Heart Reef and Whitehaven Beach. Of course we indulged at some of the islands great restaurants as well. A nice short and relaxing holiday.
Madrid, Barcelona with Scenic Tours
The third part of our European holiday was mainly spent in Spain, starting in Madrid. Our wonderful and enthusiastic tour guide insisted that we see and hear about as much as possible in the time available.
We travelled by high-speed train to Barcelona which we explored in the highly- charged political environment of Catalan secessionist demonstrations. The bus tour north to France, through Andorra and then back to Barcelona was a long day but well worthwhile. We finished our wonderful European holiday flying back to Australia with a short stopover in Dubai.
